Background Information

Autumn 1993
During a visit to Sir Michael Sobell House, Hospice for the Churchill Hospital, Oxford, Ann Daymond was shown a proposal for the formation of the Towersey Foundation. The proposal had been prepared by Dr Colin Lee, full-time Music Therapist at the hospice. The benefits of Music Therapy to patients in palliative care were immediately recognised and work began to ensure that such services were made available in the South West.

March 1995
The decision was made to set up a pilot project at Rowcroft Hospice, Torquay at the suggestion of the medical director, Dr Richard Scheffer.

January 1996
The Towersey Foundation was formally constituted and registered as a charity - no. 1052862.

December 1997

August 1998
It was realised that the resourcing and patient mix at Exeter was not as appropriate as at Torquay and consequently the pilot study ended at Exeter. Julian began to work full-time with patients from Rowcroft Hospice and the South Devon Macmillan Team.
