Wrinkle
Relaxing Treatment
When we frown, smile or laugh we contract our face into folds of
skin. These form dynamic wrinkles and lines such as “crow’s
feet”, forehead lines or “worry lines”. Over time,
these wrinkles and lines become deeper and more permanent.
Wrinkle relaxing
treatment is a simple non surgical treatment which can dramatically
soften facial expression lines, frown lines and crow's feet in both
men and women without surgery, scars and recovery time.
How
does wrinkle relaxing treatment work and what is it used for?
Facial expressions occur when the brain sends a signal to muscle
tissue. Wrinkle relaxing treatment blocks this signal. This relaxes
the muscle for around 3 – 4 months leaving the overlying skin
looking smooth and less wrinkled. Repeat treatments have been shown
to last longer. For many it can virtually ‘erase’ these
lines. Wrinkle relaxing treatment works only on the specific muscles
injected leaving surrounding muscles to function as usual, so that
your face is not expressionless.
Where
can it be used?
It can be used to soften lines and wrinkles around the forehead,
eyes, lips, chin and neck. Within days you can obtain a more natural
and relaxed look. It starts to work in about 5 days. The greatest
effect is seen after about 2-3weeks. Treatment with Botox can typically
be repeated indefinitely. This treatment is quite popular, and when
used in combination with other rejuvenation treatments, is very
successful.
How is wrinkle relaxing treatment administered?
Tiny amounts of wrinkle relaxant are injected, using a disposable
syringe, into the muscles that cause the skin to crease and furrow.
Because a very fine needle is used, most clients find that there
is only mild and temporary discomfort. There is a slight swelling
immediately after which settles within a few hours and application
of ice helps. The entire procedure usually takes no longer than
10-15 minutes. No sedation or local anesthetic is needed, and you
can resume normal activities immediately. You can even drive yourself
home or back to the office.
Aftercare
There are really no pre-treatment requirements. However, after your
treatment, we request that you move the treated muscles frequently
and not lie flat on your back for four hours.
How
safe is wrinkle relaxing treatment?
Since it was first used in 1987 it has become the number one aesthetic
procedure in many countries around the world. The product received
a license for cosmetic use in the US in 2002, and in 2006 has gained
approval for cosmetic use in the UK. Allergan's brand of wrinkle
relaxant is also used by Doctors for the management of spasticity
in children, the treatment of headache, back pain, excessive sweating,
and many other different diseases.
Are
there any side effects?
Side effects of this treatment are rare, but can include some tenderness
or bruising at the site of injection. In less than 1% of people
treated with wrinkle relaxing injections it can cause weakness in muscles
near to the site of injection resulting in a slight and temporary
droop of the eyelid or eyebrow.
Who should not have wrinkle relaxing treatment?
Studies have not been performed on women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Although wrinkle relaxing treatment is not thought to be dangerous,
treatment is best avoided during this time. Anyone who is pregnant,
breast feeding, taking antibiotics or suffering from severe neuromuscular
disorders is advised not to have treatment.
Other
uses
Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating, is a common problem. The same
injections can be used in the armpits to reduce the amounts of sweat
produced. A local anesthetic cream is used at this sensitive site
to reduce discomfort.
Dermal Fillers
Instant solution for lines, wrinkles, lip enhancement, facial contouring,
folds of skin or hollow cheeks. Effective, safe treatment.
What
do fillers do?
Skin starts to sag and wrinkle naturally with age, as underlying
fat and collagen diminishes. Injecting dermal fillers into the skin
plumps it up, makes it firmer and smoothes out lines and wrinkles.
Dermal fillers, for example Restylane, may be based on hyaluronic
acid, a naturally occurring substance widely used in medicine.
Where
can they be used?
Frequently used to fill out the lips, dermal fillers are also highly
successful in reducing crows' feet, wrinkles around the lips, nose
and mouth, and lines on the cheeks and forehead. They can also plump
out hollow cheeks, reshape the chin or nose tip, or fill acne scars.
Treatment
As with any cosmetic treatment, you should consult a qualified medical
practitioner before deciding to go ahead. Before treatment itself
begins, the face is sometimes numbed with a local anesthetic cream
or injection. Fillers are applied under the skin with a series of
injections – a mildly uncomfortable process, with injections
close to the lip or nose the most likely to be painful. Treatment
takes up to one hour, and many people go straight back to normal
daily life afterwards, although if a large area is treated it can
take a few hours or even a day or two to recover. There may be slight
bleeding where the needle was inserted, plus mild bruising or redness
which will disappear in a few days. Repeat treatments are needed
every six to nine months to maintain the appearance.
Results
The results are visible immediately, with the full effect showing
once any swelling and bruising has subsided.
Possible
side effects
Avoid dermal fillers if you have active acne. After treatment, allergic
reactions sometimes crop up, including itching, puffiness, and red
or bumpy skin. Patients who have had cold sores in the past can
suffer an outbreak. Rarely, red lumps appear under the skin some
months after treatment.
Restylane, Hydrafill, Belotero
These fillers are crystal-clear, non-animal, biodegradable gel based
on a natural substance, called hyaluronic acid. This is found naturally
in the body. The gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with
a very fine needle. The result is instant and gives you long-lasting
and natural enhancement. Since the product is not extracted from
animals, there is no risk of an allergic reaction. As one of the
main components of the product, hyaluronic acid occurs naturally
within the body, no 'patch test' is required. Treatment may commence
immediately after consultation and results are instantaneous. Ageing
lines are quickly reduced and the lip border instantly lifted and
increased, so helping to preserve and restore a youthful looking
skin.
Sculptra (Newfill)
Facial fat loss, or lipoatrophy, is the loss of fat beneath the
skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow
eyes. Sculptra™ is a long-lasting, clinically-proven treatment
than can smooth deep lines and wrinkles and restore facial volume
lost to the body's natural ageing process. A clinical study has
shown that the aesthetic improvements obtained with Sculptra™
have persisted for up to 2 years in many patients. The results from
Sculptra™ are not immediate. The improvement is gradual, long-lasting
and gives you an entirely natural-looking fuller face.
